Lost Season 3 Premiere

(Need I say there will be spoilers?)

With the return of our favorite castaways, we were treated to another revealing peek at DHARMA's presence on the island. Jack awakes in what we soon learn to be the long-rumored underwater station. And Sawyer is being held in the island's zoology center, referenced briefly in the orientation filmstrip. But where are the animals? Escaped? We know Sawyer shot a polar bear in the pilot. Is that the bear that Tom (Beardy/Zeke) said solved the puzzle in two hours? Sort of ironic that Sawyer would end up in his cage. And what of Kate's experience? Was the communal shower part of yet another station or was it attached to the animal studies compound? She did end up in a cage right across from Sawyer at the end, but the way the Others moved so freely between the stations, it sure doesn't seem like they're very far apart. Each captive could've easily woke up in an entirely different compound to start.

The opening scene was amazing, showing yet another perspective of the plane crash, this time from the point of view of the Others, who were living in what seemed to be a quaint village on the island. But who exactly are these Others? Sawyer guessed late last season that they were leftover from DHARMA, a conclusion that many viewers also arrived at. Jack's interaction with Juliet confirms this belief...assuming we can trust anything the Others say (which, let's not just yet). I'll be a little disappointed if that's all it is, mostly because the writers made them out to be so mysterious even last season when many of us were already leaning toward an involvement with the DeGroots' research initiative to explain their presence on the island. Still, even if they were once DHARMA, there's something else going on there now. Something that hasn't been revealed. Just what exactly do they want, and why have they traded in holding book clubs for abducting castaways? Whatever is up, it doesn't sound rosy for our heroes, especially Kate.

It'll be interesting to see where this goes. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait at least two weeks for more answers. It sounds like the next episode will focus on what the other survivors are doing to get Jack, Kate, and Sawyer back.

Namaste.
